wave anatomy.
Trochoidal motion of wind wavesWhile one normally associates an up and down motion with the passage of each wave. Actually, a circular motion occurs. It is this orbital motion of the water (or objects on the surface of the water) that causes an object to bob up and down, forward and backward as waves pass under it.
But even this motion is not exactly circular but is trochoidal (line form traced by a point on a rolling wheel). While the motion in a wave over deep water move is an almost closed circular path there is a tiny forward motion with the passage of each wave, particularly in large waves.
The change of motion for deep water wavesAlso, in deep water, the motion changes as the depth increases fairly rapidly. The trochoidal shape at the surface flattens with increasing depth as well as a decrease in the total motion. This flattening of motion/decreasing size continues with increasing depth until all that remains is a small back and forth movement and even that will cease to be noticed which occurs at one-half of the waves's total length. For shallow water waves, the same flattening in the motion occurs but there is no decrease in the forward/backward motion.
The speed at which a wave moves through the water is dependent on the wave's length and the depth of the water. Generally, the longer the length of the wave the faster is moves through the water. Tsunamis can have extremely long wave lengths (60 miles/100 km or more) and thus move around 550 mph (900 kph).

Aperture 3 allows you to organize large photo libraries with even more flexibility using Projects and the new Faces and Places. Faces uses face detection and recognition to find and organize your photos by the people in them. You can view faces across your entire photo library or view just the faces that appear in selected projects. In a new view that speeds up the organization process, Aperture 3 displays faces that have been detected but haven’t yet been named. Places lets you explore your photos based on where they were taken, and like in iPhoto, Places automatically reverse geocodes GPS data into user-friendly locations. In Aperture 3, you can assign locations by dragging-and-dropping photos onto a map or by using location information from GPS enabled cameras, tracking devices or your iPhone® photos.
The new Brushes feature allows you to add professional touches to your photos by simply painting effects onto the image. Aperture 3 includes 15 Quick Brushes that perform the most popular tasks like Dodge, Burn, Polarize and Blur, without the complexity of layers or masks. Brushes can automatically detect edges in your images to let you apply or remove effects exactly where you want them. Aperture 3 includes dozens of Adjustment Presets that apply a specific style or look to the entire image with just a click. You can create your own custom presets or explore the techniques of other photographers by importing theirs.

Jeremy Flores,back in the water ,surfograpHIe.com
The French prodigy, a former ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) champion in 2006 and ASP Roookie of the Year in 2007, went on rehabilitation in France after an ankle and foot injury forced him to pull out from the last three events of last year’s ASP World Tour, but is now ready to hit the line-up again.
Despite missing the Billabong Pro Mundaka, the Rip Curl Pro Search and the Billabong Pipeline Masters, Flores finished his 2010 campaign ranked inside the requalifying group, an impressive result for the 21 year-old phenomenon.
Coming back from a long break that kept him out of the water (October, November and December), Flores is back in good form to get things going again and be ready for the 2010 ASP World Tour launch on the Gold Coast of Australia, at the end of February.
“I am really happy to be able to get back in the water,” Flores said. “My foot feels good and that long break from competitive surfing gave me the opportunity to do things that I usually can’t do. Therefore, I think that injury was a good experience for me.”
Flores, who got back to surfing in the Canary Islands in January, seems to be finding his way back to his best form and will be much awaited for his 2010 start.
“I felt pretty good during that quick trip to the Canary Islands and I needed to spend time in the water,” Flores said. “I am super motivated to get back to work and start off the 2010 ASP World Tour well with the first event in Australia.”
With another three weeks before the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast kicks off on the Gold Coast of Australia (Feb. 27 to March 10), Flores will be surfing, training physically and will spend a few days with the French national team who is currently on a training camp in Australia as well.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 January, 2010 : - - Maxime Huscenot (REU), 17, and Laura Enever (AUS), 18, claimed their respective ASP World Junior Titles yesteray in punchy two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at North Narrabeen on the final day of the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships fueled by Monster Energy.
Huscenot, received entry into the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships as an ASP International wildcard, wowed spectators and surfers alike today, besting an in-form Jadson Andre (BRA), 19, in a hard-fought Final to claim the ASP World Junior Title.
“This is the biggest day of my life and it’s absolutely unbelievable,” Huscenot said. “It feels like I just won a heat, not the ASP World Title – it’s incredible. Jadson (Andre) is an amazing surfer and the whole Brazilian team rips so hard. I cannot believe it is my day. I am at a loss for words.”

Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay
7 December, 2009 : - - Waimea Bay, Hawaii - Huge waves are pulsing through Waimea Bay . Invitees and Alternates of The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy, are putting on an incredible afternoon display. A 30-foot-plus set just closed out at the Bay.
Surfer Tom Carroll, was the first casualty today. As he dropped into a wave, the full power of the lip crashed down, compressing him and tearing apart his ankle. He left the beach in an ambulance and was bitterly disappointed he will not be surfing again this year.
I will Shoot tomorrow from the Bay.

Tim McKenna photography
Tim is one the best surf photographer in the world and has been using liquideye water housing for a long time.
Profile:
Leading figure in action sport photography, Tim McKenna has become recognized as one of the best outdoor photographers in the world, inspiring his generation by revealing the sheer beauty of the elements through images capturing the most spectacular sporting performances in extraordinary settings.
His work, has appeared in countless publications and advertising campaigns, product of twenty years of travel across the globe, often pioneering new destinations.
Born in Sydney in 1968, close to Australia’s famous surfing beaches, Tim grew up on the Atlantic coast of S.W. France before returning to Australia in 1986 where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queensland University.
His University degree completed, he decided to focus on photography having in his spare time, developed his technique and submitted his first photos. Surfing Life in Australia and Surf Session in France were the first to believe in his potential.
In 1990, the European sportswear company Oxbow took him on and triggered his interest in the other extreme 'fun' sports. Over a period of ten years, he produced more than 60 % of the famous glossy catalogs.
With the rise in popularity of surf and its related ‘riding sports’ (sports de glisse) Tim soon became a top extreme sports and sportswear photographer and then found himself pioneering new heli,-snowboard and ski destinations, France, Alaska, Caucasus, Kamchatka, Uzbekistan, or arid desert for motocross. Over the following years he was able to photograph top sportsmen worldwide in the most beautiful natural settings.
His first visit to French Polynesia in 1996 resulted in love at first sight. The luxuriant beauty of the landscape, the richness of the culture combined with the charm of the people and perfect waves all year round made him finally decide to settle therewith his family. He is now based on the island of Tahiti.
His photographic library reflects his travels and passions over the past twenty years, covering extreme sports, tourism & travel, fashion, nature, flora & fauna, landscapes, aerial & underwater.
Capturing the grace and the power of nature is his main goal but it is the poetic note infused into his imagery that has made him a leading figure in sports and travel photography. He is constantly searching for those elusive glimpses of perfection when nature reveals its force and beauty, reminding us of the rare, fragile state of our environment.

Jerome Houyvet photography
Born in 1970, Jerome started windsurfing at 13. A few years later, the first signs of a future in photography started to appear as Jerome began making pictures of his windsurfing peers, " just for fun". Who would of thought that he would later make it his life.
In 1989, Jerome enrolls into a 3-year program at a photography school in Paris. It is there that he discovers the many possibilities and aspects of work as a photographer. Alas, the ocean is far a distance from Paris and his first windsurfing assignments are limited to the Paris-Bercy Indoor. These would be his first photos printed in his favorite magazine, WIND.
With a major in promotions, in 1992, Jerome is offered a unique opportunity to work as a reporter for the "securite civile", France's rescues operations including firemen,aerial rescues on the ocean, in the mountains, the Canadairs, forest fires and earth quakes. He spends three years in this rough but passionate field of work where one must master control over one's emotions. Strong images and a connection with men devoted to serve others was an unforgettable and marking experience.
But his passion still alive, etched deep in his soul, Jerome is drawn to "La Torche" in October 1994 for a Wold Cup Event. Meeting all the pro windsurfers pushes him over the edge as he decides to invest and follow this niche of photography all the way. Ten days later, Jerome is off to Hawaii for the Aloha classic, the last event of the pro circuit. This trip marks the decision: October 1995, Jerome quits the "Securite Civile", to put his dream to work.
Training in the powerful waves of Hookipa was not easy, to say the least. There were a few harry experiences as Jerome made his first watershots. All the hard work and tribulations in the waves finally pay off when Jerome gets his first photos published a few months later.
Today, Specializing in windsurfing photography, Jerome works with all the top professionals in the world to share with you their best sessions, their most radical moves and biggest wipeouts. His time is spent between Hawaii, other further more exotic locations and a few French Championship events (the AFW), and of course, Barfleur, his own little paradise.
His enthusiasm and passion still existent today, Jerome can often be spotted on the water riding the waves with his friends.

Kazuma students take top honors in the 2009 Quiksilver Jr Pro at Kewalo's
Kazuma students take top honors in the Quiksilver Jr Pro at kewalo's. Past kazuma rider Albee Layer won the event with a perfect 10 ride taking home the $2000.00 check. Billy Kemper and Granger Larson placed equal 3rd. Matt Meola and Tanner Hendrickson placed equal 5th. Impressive results from the Maui Boys and this shows the dominating success of the Kazuma training program.

"In 2003, some musicians of the french tribute band to Franck Zappa called "The Children of invention" decided to create a new band playing his own music. The Sheraf project was borning...
Firstily, this project was an instrumental band and when firsts songs were created, sheraf musicians wanted a singer. Pedral took the place of the dumb/mouth-noising/cartoon singer in 2004. Vladimir Bozar did his first gig when the children of invention did the last.
Vladimir Bozar is just an imaginary king of absurdity. Sheraf is coming from a cult comic movie called "La classe américaine" (American stylish).
Metal, punk, classical music, jazz, movie sound, Tzigane music, electronic, are mixed to the guitare, violin, trumpet and especially a voice coming from Hell...
In 2008, when Vladimir Bozar decided to record his first album, Pedral remembered about his discussion with Tim Smolens and his way to record and mix an album. Tim Smolens and Jason Schimmel was ok to mixed for this album. In may 2008, Pedral and Mina went to the Estradasphere studio in Seattle and worked on "Universal Sprache" with Estradasphere musicians.
Timb Harris from Estradasphere and Secret Chiefs 3 helped a lot for his mix and did some trumpet overdub. Tim recorded some double bass and vocals, Jason some mandolin, and others very sympathic musicians Trumbon and Flute...
Vladimir Bozar 'n' ze Sheraf Orkestär is now working on a new tour for 2009 and will have the french magazine ELEGY as main partner. The band provides to go tour through Europe and would like to organise a tour in USA and would love to export his music to Japan."

about LIQUIDEYE WATER HOUSING
Created at the beginning by a professional photographer who wished to have gear totally adapted to his needs and his necessities.
This photographer, Philippe Chevodian, become the special designer of Liquid Eye. His trips around the world in search of new waves, lead him to always try to reduce his equipment and it is natural that the concept of our housings is influenced by those choices.
Thus, our production is essentially centered on weight and volume earnings, primeval factors in action photography.
Our products are conceived and designed by professional photographers. That is the key of our success.In order to acquire the best possible outputs, we use state of the art of composites products and the techniques called “sandwich”, the same techniques are used in aeronautic industries and racing constructions (formula 1, Indy cars, etc.).
Epoxy resin, stronger and with a longer lifespan, has been preferred, to classical polyester resins.
Fiber compounds are, for the main part : fiberglass, carbon glass and some parts are Kevlar reinforced for a better tearing resistance.
Liquid Eye has chosen to adopt an optional system, totally new.
By opting for such a system we took the option of offering to our customers a larger price range, which allows us to propose more affordable prices for the basics models but without compromising any of the technical advantages that make the reputation of our products.
Several front plates are available and reserved spots allow additional controls. Thus, step by step, the photographer can improve the possibilities of his housing.
The pistol grip
The original Liquid Eye pistol grip is totally unique. Supplied on all the SLR housing it is fully removable. This solution presents the double advantage of reducing the volume for easy carrying and allows different accessories such as pole or remote control plate.
The “ILS” system provided on those handles is also an exclusivity of Liquid Eye. Not a single hole goes through the housing wall avoiding any leaking problems.
The push button gets double step sensitivity. It is the only two-in-one control available on the splash housing market. The first position controls the AF function and the second, the shutter release.
By the special HC screw located on the back of the pistol grip, it is also possible to tune the sensitivity of the AF position control.
The front plates
As indicated above, there are different models of front plates.
The basic front plate (ref. BF-al/s), the cheaper one, is made out of acrylic sheet. It can fit lenses such as 24 mm f2,8 until 50 mm f1,8. A slightly longer model (ref. BF-al/l) is also available, designed for small and medium tele-lenses such as 85 mm, 100 mm or 200 mm.
Thanks to its exclusive technique of extension rings, the very latest baptized “one screw system (2)” that equips the composite fiber plates pushes once again the frontiers of water photography. With only one front plate, you will be able to mount Canon® lenses from the 15 mm fish eye until the 300 mm f4!
